Budget Airlines

Following in the footsteps of Laker Airways many years ago there has been a tremendous growth in low cost, no frills air carriers throughout Europe and indeed the rest of the world. These airlines often fly to smaller provincial airports and generally have the cost of their service subsidised by the local chamber of trade or councils on the basis that they are bringing new trade to the area. This is great news for the budget traveller as not only do you get a cheap ticket but can also very often travel to much closer to your final destination.
Beware though that these flights are more prone to delay or cancellation and should they not operate they won't, unlike the scheduled carriers, make arrangements for you to travel with someone else! Also they levy additional charges that other airlines do not offer such as lower baggage allowances and booking charges. Click here to see details of those likely charges.
Having said that they offer some great travel bargains provided they depart from your area of the country and, of course, to where you wish to fly to. If you use the wegolo checker shown below it will list every destination from your local airport and check availability although sometimes it is cheaper to book direct with the individual airline.
Below are some of the many with UK departures with their main destination listings or an availability checker to the right.
